LAUSD To Begin Vaccinations On School Grounds

On August 30, 2021, the Los Angeles Unified School District started to offer coronavirus vaccines on campuses with mobile clinics. LAUSD workers, as well as students aged 12 years and above can make vaccination appointments online. That said, it is worth noting that for students aged from 12 to 15 years, taking the coronavirus vaccine requires having an adult’s presence at the site.

Interim Superintendent of the LAUSD Megan Reilly stated that the mobile clinics of the District for vaccination are aiding in keeping the community safe. It requires full vaccination for every employee on or before October 15, 2021, in addition to conducting regular coronavirus testing on staffers and students. Those tests will continue to occur for everyone, irrespective of their vaccination status.

The first coronavirus outbreak of the LAUSD happened in the last week of August, where Hollywood’s Grant Elementary School confirmed 17 COVID-19-positive cases. In the event of LAUSD students testing positive for coronavirus disease, they would be escorted to some designated space where others would pick them up. Then, those students would be given study materials for home-based learning. After a 10-day quarantine, they may come back to class if cleared. Testing positive would eliminate the requirement for students to undergo COVID-19 tests again for three months.

Vaccinated students testing positive for coronavirus disease do not have to quarantine if they lack the symptoms of this health condition. The students will be evaluated again five days later to know whether they are experiencing coronavirus disease symptoms or not.

Before the new term started, all LAUSD students were told to undergo baseline coronavirus tests, which yielded over 3,200 positive cases. A further 3,500 LAUSD students were told to quarantine as they had close contact with COVID-19-positive people.
