LA County’s AMC Theaters Start Phased Reopening

A los angeles AMC theater

AMC reopened its two bigger theaters on March 15, 2021, as part of its plan to completely reopen its Los Angeles County locations in four more days. The first theaters to open again were the ones situated in Burbank and along Santa Monica Boulevard. Then, the other AMC theaters situated in the nation opened again on March 19, 2021.

Reopening the California-based theaters is momentous for AMC, its associates, studio partners, guests, and the whole theatrical exhibition sector, said AMC’s Chief Executive Officer and President Adam Aron. As a film market, the Los Angeles Designated Market Area is twice larger than the NYC market, said Aron. He said that to give us an idea about how big the LA reopening process is.

Over 500 AMC theaters have been opened again across the United States of America. At the same time, AMC Theatres is testing its latest safety and cleaning measures.

The Fundamental Measures

The so-called ‘AMC Safe and Clean’ measures, which California’s inhabitants have gotten used to last year, include the following.

  • Compulsory use of facemasks for all and always when in public but for when consuming food
  • Social distancing when in queues
  • Cashless transactions
  • Clorox wipes or sanitizers situated in the theaters

Specialized Seating Technology For Social Distancing

When purchasing tickets through AMC’s website, application or kiosks, it has established a capacity for each auditorium and will make surrounding seats inaccessible, to meet social distancing regulations.

According to the California Department of Public Health’s regulations, AMC’s cinema halls will be filled only at a fraction of its maximum seating capacity.

Additional Cleaning

AMC Theatres has included more time from one screening to the next to make more comprehensive cleaning possible. It uses electrostatic sprays following each screening, which makes the most of surface coverage with negative ions to make disinfectant particles cling onto the positive surfaces.

This business enterprise has also put MERV 13-rated air filtration solutions in its theaters. For your information, Los Angeles County’s schools had to meet the same air filtration-related requirement to resume indoor operations.

At night, AMC’s staff will clean their theater carpets with vacuums featuring high-efficiency particulate air filters. According to the company, the vacuum cleaners will trap over 99% of airborne particles.

It will also continuously clean surfaces that people frequently touch, like door handles, handrails, tray tables, and buttons for recliner seat operation.

Condiments And Drink Refills

Before this epidemic, AMC had self-serve beverage areas that permitted audiences to freely fill their containers with beverages again. While the refill option will be there in AMC’s reopened theaters, audiences will have to ask its staff to perform it for them. The same applies to condiments like ketchup, mustard, and butter that were available as self-serve options to customers. You can request AMC’s staff to serve you with those things.

On March 12, 2021, the County became eligible to get into California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy’s red tier. In this tier, movie theaters, indoor dining spaces, and gymnasiums could open again at limited capacities.
