CDC Lifts Indoor Mask Mandate For Completely Vaccinated Individuals

Indoor mask use is no longer a requirement for people who got full vaccinations except when they use public transportation to travel, as per the CDC’s latest recommendation.

Its updated recommendation makes it possible for the people to not wear masks or not follow social distancing norms in almost every indoor situation. There is an exception to this for when they are in buses, airplanes, trains, homeless shelters, prisons, or hospitals.

Fully vaccinated folks could start to do what they had stopped before due to the pandemic, said the CDC’s Rochelle Walensky in a recent briefing at the White House. Everyone has longed for that moment in which they could return to some form of normalcy, Walensky added.

The changes have come with the CDC getting the data that showed vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 strains that have transmitted in the nation.

Walensky also stated that completely vaccinated people do not have to bother about a face mask when outdoors any longer, albeit in settings with crowds. At the time of writing this, the CDC outdoor mask recommendation is against LAC’s mandates. That is to say, Los Angeles County requires wearing masks in crowded outdoor settings for those individuals.

The recommendations are likely to be reverted at any time, according to the coronavirus spread, said Walensky. Anyhow, higher vaccinations make that reversion a less likely event, he said.

Walensky said that the mandate is lifted as per the science instead of the logic to incentivize some to be vaccinated. On the other hand, California Governor Gavin Newsom also aims to do away with mask mandates on or before June 15, 2021. That is the possible deadline for California to start a complete reopening of its economy with no restrictions in place.
