Echo Park Lake’s Construction Likely To Finish By May

Los Angeles may open Echo Park Lake again by May after evicting the homeless people encamped there and fencing the property for construction in late March.

As per City News Service’s information, around 36 tons of garbage have been gathered since the closure of this LA park, in addition to pounds of both biohazardous and hazardous waste.

The park renovation money worth $600,000 was used for playground surfaces, drinking fountain replacement, restroom repairs, bridge repairs, light poles, sprinkler systems, and turf replacement.

Before the park renovation, there was an impasse between the Los Angeles Police Department and numerous homeless advocates. The protesters believed that the homeless individuals were deliberately evicted, so they marched LA’s streets throughout the night. After that, the Los Angeles Police Department started to disperse the crowds, and they arrested 182 individuals as an unintended part of that process.

Los Angeles City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell and Mayor of LA Eric Garcetti promised that there would be hotel rooms to accommodate all those homeless folks. Anyhow, the advocates said that the conditions of those hotels were similar to a prison.
