The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health registered 422 coronavirus cases on June 30, 2021, the highest one-day count since the first day of May. Describing the spike in coronavirus transmission as ‘concerning’, the Department noted that the positivity rate is below what LAC saw when it was at its highest point in January.

In a recent press release, the Department stated that while the transmission here stays low, it has increases in coronavirus cases and day-to-day test positivity. LA County Public Health keeps cautioning that individuals without full vaccination are at a higher risk of coronavirus infection. That is due to increased intermingling as well as the transmission of more COVID-19 strains such as the so-called Delta variant.

There is a rise in coronavirus transmission, especially regarding the Delta strain that has turned out to be transmissible to a greater extent. Therefore, the Department has urged people to wear face masks even if they are indoors and vaccinated.

The Department recommends wearing the products indoors in environments such as retail shops, groceries, family amusement centers, cinema halls, and workplaces if everyone’s status of vaccination is unknown. There should be a better understanding of in what way and to which kinds of people the Delta strain spreads. Until the understanding occurs, the Department recommends focusing on as much protection as possible with the least interruption to routines when businesses operate with no other restrictions, such as capacity limits and physical distancing.

Fully vaccinated people have demonstrated resistance to coronavirus’s Delta strain, but the Department has stated that the individuals who contracted that variant have reported mild illnesses.

The positivity rate of the US has increased from just 0.5% when it started to fully reopen the national economy to 1.2%, which is more than twofold. LAC also registered two COVID-19-associated deaths on June 30, 2021, and 255 hospitalizations related to the disease.

As per the latest vaccination data, 67.8% of Los Angeles County’s residents and 87.1% of its seniors have got one dosage of the vaccine at the least. Up to 59% of the 8.3 million qualified residents have been completely vaccinated. As for Public Health executives, vaccination is the best way of protection against the disease. So, the Department encourages eligible people who are yet to be vaccinated to do so immediately.
