LAC Public Health Department Still Requires Masks In Workplaces

Governor Gavin Newsom stated that California would lift the state’s mask mandate in mid-June. Anyhow, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health discussed situations in which masks would be required, including workplaces.

DPH director Barbara Ferrer stated that California would clarify that unvaccinated individuals would still have to wear face masks, particularly when in crowded places and indoors. As for Ferrer, California’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health Administration is clear that employers at workplaces would be protected. Unless all people inside the room are fully vaccinated, face masks would be necessary.

Cal/OSHA discussed the latest guidance about face masks, as the board alternates in its perspectives about proposed rules necessitating every worker to use masks when one individual is unvaccinated. As of June 03, 2021, it seems that the board of Cal/OSHA would make it necessary for all employees to wear face masks in the event of one of them not being vaccinated. When the whole workplace is vaccinated, the staff would be permitted to work without masks.

Ferrer stated that she need not emphasize that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been clear that people without vaccination should keep wearing masks when around those from beyond their household. That applies to kids aged below 12 years, as well. As for Ferrer, wearing masks and social distancing when in crowded settings, especially indoors, means protecting not only oneself but also others who are unvaccinated.

DPH also issued a flyer about what California will look like after June 15, 2021, when masks would be necessary at the so-called mega-events.

Indoor mega-events would be regarded as a venue with over 5,000 individuals; attending those would require showing negative coronavirus tests or proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Outdoor mega-events would be deemed over 10,000 individuals, with the test or proof only recommended instead of being required.

Besides following the face mask regulations under the above-mentioned circumstances, businesses will operate at their full capacities from mid-June, with no mandated social distancing measures, or usually no mask mandates for their patrons.

On June 01, 2021, Ferrer stated that LAC required a little over 1 million first dosages for 80% of people aged 16 years or above. It is a checkpoint that LAC has previously termed ‘community immunity.’ The DPH director feels that the vaccination objective is achievable in or before late August in the event LAC keeps its 100,000-vaccination rate per day.
