Protester Arrested for Alleged Door Slamming at Council Meeting

Tensions Rise at L.A. City Council: Protester’s Arrest Sparks Controversy Amid Robotic Dog Debate

A demonstrator was taken into custody during a Los Angeles City Council gathering on May 5th after allegedly slamming a door in the face of a Los Angeles Police Department officer. This incident happened after Councilman Kevin de Leon gave a Cinco de Mayo presentation and some protesters started to yell at him.

Outbursts of yelling “f—k you, KDL” could be heard, prompting City Council President Paul Krekorian to request that security remove the people causing the disruption. He exclaimed during the disruption, “I want whoever is shouting to be taken out of here immediately.”

The Los Angeles Police Department named the arrested individual as Samson Tafolo, 30, and stated that he refused to vacate the room prior to the group departing. LAPD claims that as they were leaving, Tafolo forcefully closed the door on an LAPD security services sergeant. An LAFD team administered first aid to the sergeant on-site, but his injuries did not necessitate hospitalization.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) apprehended Tafolo and supposedly discovered a knife that was disguised as a pink hair comb on his person. He was arrested for assaulting a police officer and disrupting a public gathering, but was later freed upon his own recognizance.

Supporters of Tafolo stated that he was present at the gathering to express his opposition to the robotic dog the LAPD was trying to get the city council to accept.

People have been protesting the robotic dog, as well as De Leon, since the racist recordings from 2022 were released and caused an uproar within the city council.

Since his return to the council earlier this year, protesters have been voicing their discontentment at De Leon’s plans to stay for the remainder of his term until 2024. Tafolo has an appointment to appear in court on June 6th.
